PRELIMARY TASK

PAGE ONE

For our prelim task we were put in for 3 groups of 4. In the group I was in we had Helena being director, Alex being a camera operator and me and Gil were actors. At the beginning we were given a story board which looked like this:

For out set we used the TV studio, this had a set that was already in place for the activity. We decided that for our act we would set it in modern day times so we wore youthful clothing and for our prop we used a condom. The camera we used was a Sony NX5 with a tripod, we had to set everything up at the begining like, white balance and focusing before filming each scene.
PAGE TWO
We had to get in 3 different main shots; over the shoulder, wide shot and close up. Each time we filmed a shot we filmed the whole sequence in the shot to prevent jumpy editing. The first shot we did did was the wide shot there were 4 scenes that we needed but we filmed the whole sequence from the begining. Wide shot is used so the audience can see a lot more of the set and actors, directors use the wide shots so they can fit a lot more in the scene. We then went on to doing over the shoulder shots which there were 4 of them too. Over the should shots allows the audience to become closer to the audience and feel as if they are getting the same view as the actor are. The last shot we had to use was close up, we used close up 4 times. This is used to capture feelings and emotions facially, we used it when Gill and i were in a conversation, we also used close up of our main prop, the condom which creates meaning for the audience. When filming in the shot we selected we didnt change the position of it at all, this meant that sometimes although we still ran the whole scene together we werent always in the shot. We also added in one last shot which was silmed through curtain blinds over the shoulder, this automatically gives the audience the feel as if someone was watching the actors.

Although i was infront of the camera, there was only four of us so we all had to control the camera together, and organise and direct as a group. i was also watching how to operate the camera and vocally helped Alex with the decisions for the shots.
