SEMIOLOGY

Semiology is the study of signs. All humans create meaning for different signs they see without realising. For example; a heart means romance, having a shot of a knife automatically gives off the impression that someone is about to get murdered. A lot of things you see on TV you create meaning for without thinking about it, this is because the media use these signs the way you see them to create obvious meaning for the audience.
We also create steriotypical images of people, for example; if we see hooded teenaged boys in black and looking suspicious we automatically feel as though they are going to do something bad.
